According to estimations by Public Health England, the UK vaccination programme has directly prevented over 66,900 hospitalisations in those aged 65 and over.
These calculations are based on the direct effect of vaccination and vaccine coverage rates.
The report states: “The indirect effects of the vaccination programme will not be incorporated in this analysis, therefore the figure of 66,900 hospitalisations averted is likely to be an underestimate.”
Coronavirus jabs have prevented between 21.3 and 22.9 million infections, analysis suggests.
The vaccine rollout has also prevented between 57,500 and 62,700 deaths, according to PHE’s latest Covid-19 vaccine surveillance report.
